Ascension Day, Thursday 1 May

To mark this once-in-a-lifetime coincidence we had these special events, with Bishop Gordon Bates with us throughout the day:

7 am Hail the Day!
The Music Group risked life and limb by ascending All Saints Tower
and singing 'Hail the day that sees him rise' accompanied by Paul Harris on his cornet.

Both Rt Rev'd Gordon Bates, the previous bishop of Whitby and Rt Rev'd Robert Ladds, the present bishop of Whitby were present either at the top or bottom of the tower!

Music Group and Bishop Robert Ladds at the top of the tower.Hail the Day Breakfast at Canons Garth.

Over 30 came and supported the group by gathering at the bottom of the tower and all started this unique day inspired and then fortified by breakfast back at Canons Garth.

9.30 am Holy Communion at East Moors

On the first Ascension Day the disciples went into the hills with their Lord. So did we!

7 pm Confirmation and Holy Communion at All Saints

Celebrant and PreacheConfirmation candidatesr: Rt Rev'd Gordon Bates, former Bishop of Whitby. Bishop Gordon Bates & newly confirmed

This service was followed by a reception in the church.

It was thrilling to have Bishop Gordon with us once again, who was a massive support to Helmsley throughout his sixteen years as our bishop. He joined us with the enthusiastic permission of the present Bishop of Whitby and Archbishop of York.
