Martin Vander Weyer

Martin has lived in Helmsley since 1989 and is a former churchwarden, town councillor and governor of the primary school. He is also a long-serving trustee of Helmsley Arts Centre, where he is a keen amateur actor with the 1812 Theatre Company, and a former chairman of Helmsley Walled Garden and the Ryedale Festival. Beyond Helmsley, Martin is deputy chairman of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, a trustee of Opera North in Leeds, and a visiting research fellow of York University Management School.

In his working life Martin is a columnist for The Spectator magazine and a regular contributor to the Daily Telegraph, Literary Review and other national publications. He is the author of a number of books and plays.
